SEF – Search Engine Friendly.

Joomla 1.5 provides different options for the URLs. By default we will have the php extension which is not search engine friendly. If the extenstion is html with the folder names, then it would be mostly recognized format o\for search engine and this will give the good search results.

We can change the .php extension in joomla with the below procedure.

How to Make SEF URls using Joomla:

  • Firstly, we need to change the settings to .htaccess file in your FTP root location. To do this, go to the FTP location on your website, change htaccess.txt to .htaccess and set it permissions to 0777.
  • Login to the Joomla administration panel for your website.
  • Click on the global configuration icon in that panel and select the SEO settings option on the right side. Set the option to “Yes”, by default it will be set to “No”.
  • If we set it to “Yes”, from now onwards all the URLs on the websites will be referred as .html, where as earlier it was referring .php, which is not Search engine friendly.

  • To add suffix to your URLs, you can Select “Yes” to “Add Suffix to the URLs” in the SEO settings.
  • Thats it.. Just close the FTP, Refresh the website, Now all the links will be pointing to ,html from now onwards..
  • You can get more traffic with this update.

Hope this helps you to improve your SEO for the joomla website. Please comment on this post.
